5 August – 24 September 2006
Tues – Sat 10.30am to 5.00pm, Sunday 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Claymates - an exhibition of Scottish ceramics from three artists at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum. This new exhibition at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum illustrates the wide range of work produced by ceramic artists working in Scotland today. Three artists are currently exhibiting; Karen James, Maggie Longstaff and Sjarifah Roberts are all members of the Scottish Potters Association. The three artists have exhibited widely throughout Scotland and we welcome them at the Stirling Smith this summer.
James’ wall pieces are mainly figurative with many influences from the urban environment. Longstaff’s framed ceramic compositions are tile-based, enhanced by sculptural relief and look at a variety of subject matter including landscape and natural objects.
Roberts’ work is free-standing and based on natural forms from the landscape. Her sculptural pieces include studies of ptarmigan.
