Alva Glen. A popular route for local walkers.Alva Glen is a popular route for local walkers. A good, solid path leads from the car park, passing, after about 5 minutes, the first of five waterfalls, then up though the steep, narrow-sided glen, with incredible views of the river below. (Not ideal for very small children). The last waterfall is the most spectacular. There are several paths at the lower end of the route. Signposted off the A91 in the village of Alva, through a potted road near industrial premises to Alva Glen car park.

The ochil hills woodland parkOchil Hills Woodlands Park was originally landscaped as an informal garden for Alva House by Sir John Erskine, the third Baronet of Alva and Cambuskenneth. A keen Jacobite, he fought at Sherriffmuir in 1715. To pay for the gardens, he used some of his wealth, acquired from a seam of the richest deposit of native silver recorded in Britain, found on his estate. Today there is a network of paths through the woods, children’s play area, picnic tables, information boards and car parks. Signposted off the A91, between Alva and Tillicoultry.
