The stirling old bridgeStirling Old Bridge was constructed sometime around 1500. The bridge was the lowest crossing point over the River Forth, all armies going north or south had to cross here. It was also the point where custom duties were levied on goods for market as they entered the burgh. The customs man sat in a little roofed booth situated halfway across the bridge; today this is marked by a recess. (Map Grid Ref: C1)
